Haitian Student Challenges Trump, Defends Haiti's Honor

President Donald Trump
made headlines again recently
when he questioned why the
United States would want to
encourage immigrants from
Haiti and Nigeria, labeling
the two nations as "Sh**hole
countries." The Voice reached
out to the campus community
to get reactions from students
who may have family that are
Haitian or Nigerian. Senior
Vickie Charles penned this
piece for the newspaper.

My
reaction
to what
Trump said about Haiti
calling it a "Sh** whole
county" was very hurtful
because he doesn't truly
know our culture. He's just
an outsider looking in.
He doesn't know how
my people fought for our
freedom and how we
have some of the most
beautiful beaches for
tourist to come and have a
good time.
My parent fought to
come here and become
citizens but in all reality,
they miss Haiti and the
dynamics of our culture
and our people. My aunt
and uncles, with my little
cousins, just came into
the United States about a
year ago. Now they must
worry if the president will
be sending them back to
Haiti when my parents
fought so hard and paid
large amount of money
just to bring them to the
land of the free.
Trump isn't even compassionate to what is truly happening in Haiti and our corrupted government. If Trump takes the time to talk to the different ethnicities that lives in this country because they found it better to live free and not in poverty, maybe he would be a little more sensitive to all the Sh** whole countries.

I feel as if Haitians need just a little more respect because he lacks education on how we became the FIRST country to abolish slavery and become free. Instead of talking down on us, how about try to help. I pray for President Trump and his ignorance. May god bless him. Haiti is not a Sh** whole country. It's a country who needs a new foundation.
Stop looking at the
negative and take a chance
on our positive and the
bettering.
